Turgo turbine is one type of impulse turbine.Its nozzle has a 22.5°angle with the runner rotation surface.The water coming from the penstock is converted into high speed jet by the nozzle, imposing the runner in inclined direction.The water runs in from one side of the blade, running out from the other side, pushing the runner to rotate, the runner then drive the generator through coupler to produce electricity.
Turgo turbine has as simple structure as the pelton turbine, reliable and easy to maintain and manage.Moreover, it has the merit of high specific speed, wide application range, easy to coupling and direct connation to the generator.So, in the recent years, it is well developed and widely used in mountain area.
This turbine is horizontal, single nozzle, impulse type, turgo type turbine.It consists of Main Frame, nozzle mechanics, water inlet, speed regulation and transmission mechanics etc. Main Parts Assembly includes rotary parts (working parts), bearing parts and casing parts. The runner of this turbine consists of 20 buckets and internal-external swivel.The bucket is single-curvature surface or semi-sphere shape.The external swivel is mainly to enforce the strength of the runner, and to reduce the energy lose due to wind resistance when the runner runs in the air.The runner is attached to the main shaft with parallel key.The flywheel and the coupler is made into a single piece.Using a 1:15 taper ratio to join to the shaft extension end, transmit the torque by the parallel key.The purpose of the flywheel is to increase the moment of inertia of the unit and stability.The water splashing ring can stop the water overflow axially.
